Today is the day of the digital release of OPPENHEIMER so here is
an episode for you about what all the heavy lifting that went to aging and transforming the brilliant actors in the film.  Hair Designer Jaime Leigh McIntosh and Makeup  Designer Luisa Abel walk us through the process on set under Christopher Nolan's direction while they collaborated to create convincing looks for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt that would span across wildly different projections (IMAX and 70 MM) and Black and White as well as Color. I'm sorry for the minimal visuals- the studio sent approved images which I wanted to respect, but in order to see Jaime Leigh and Luisa's extraordinary work better, please please please see the film which is out now on digital.Jaime Leigh also hosts the podcast, Last Looks which is a must-sub for everyone in the industry- check it out if you aren't subscribed already!

Jaime Leigh McIntosh

Hair Department Head

Jaime Leigh McIntosh was born in Cambridge, New Zealand. From an early age already knew that she wanted to be a hairstylist. This was confirmed years later after watching Sarah Kelly's behind the scenes documentary Full Tilt Boogie, about the making of the 1998s film From Dusk to Dawn. Jaime Leigh instantly fell in love with the colorful world of filmmaking.

Her first steps were to gain the necessary skills. After 4 years of a hair salon apprenticeship she enrolled in the Design and Arts College in Christchurch, New Zealand, to study Makeup Design & Production as the New Zealand film industry requires stylists to be skilled in both Hair & Makeup.

After college was completed, Jaime Leigh was offered her first job on a TV series called Insider's Guide to Happiness. From this small production she was hired as a Hair and Makeup Artist for background actors on the feature film King Kong (Director: Peter Jackson) where she received invaluable wig training under the guide of Peter Swords King. Jaime Leigh was a fast and inquisitive learner, and she enjoyed the huge variety of work, the constant challenges, deadlines and demands of the job. Jaime Leigh rose to each occasion.

The next decade was filled with dedication to the craft, and Jaime Leigh's skill set grew. Projects of note included The Hobbit Trilogy (Director: Peter Jackson) and Avatar (Director: James Cameron), both under the guidance and teaching of Hair & Makeup Supervisor/Designer Rick Findlater.

In 2013 Jaime Leigh emigrated to Los Angeles, USA, and shortl… Read More
